We Hear You

"You should be better by now."

If you've heard that — from a doctor, a family member, or even yourself — we want you to know something important: you are not imagining this. Your symptoms are real, and they have a name.

After a concussion, your brain goes through a complex healing process. For about 1 in 5 people, that process gets stuck. Symptoms that should fade — headaches, brain fog, dizziness, fatigue, anxiety, sleep problems — keep going. This is called Persisting Concussion Symptoms (PCS), and it's one of the most misunderstood and undertreated conditions in medicine.

A major reason people stay stuck: most treatment misses the role of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). After a concussion, your ANS — the system that controls your body's stress response, heart rate, digestion, sleep, and more — can get locked in a state of high alert. When that happens, it keeps feeding your symptoms even as the brain itself tries to heal.

BRN's Concussion Bootcamp was built to address both. We treat the brain injury and the activated ANS — together, in one intensive, evidence-based program. Because you can't fully recover if you only treat half the problem.

What's Actually Happening

Understanding PCS and the ANS

A concussion is a brain injury — not just "getting your bell rung." When the brain is injured, it triggers a cascade of chemical and neurological changes. For most people, those changes resolve within a few weeks. For about 1 in 5 people, they don't.

The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) is your body's master control system — it regulates heart rate, breathing, digestion, sleep, stress response, and more. After a concussion, the ANS can get stuck in a state of chronic activation. Think of it like a car alarm that won't turn off. That constant activation keeps your nervous system in overdrive, which perpetuates every symptom you're experiencing.

Most concussion care treats the symptoms. BRN treats the system — the brain injury and the ANS dysregulation — which is why our outcomes are different.

The Program

What happens at Bootcamp?

Intensive, structured, and built around you. Here's what the BRN Concussion Bootcamp experience looks like.

01

Intake & Pre-Bootcamp Assessment

Before Bootcamp begins, we conduct a thorough intake to understand your full history — the injury, your symptoms, what you've already tried, and what your life looks like right now. This ensures your Bootcamp is built around you from day one.

02

Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation

On arrival, our clinical team conducts a detailed evaluation covering ANS function, vestibular and visual processing, cognitive performance, exertion tolerance, sleep, and emotional regulation. We measure where you are so we know exactly where to take you.

03

Intensive Daily Treatment Sessions

Bootcamp is structured and intensive — multiple treatment sessions each day covering ANS regulation, vestibular rehab, vision therapy, graded exertion, cognitive rehab, and education. Every session is supervised by our clinical team and adjusted in real time based on your response.

04

Education: Understanding Your Brain & ANS

A core part of Bootcamp is education. You'll learn exactly what happened to your brain, why your ANS is activated, what's driving your specific symptoms, and what recovery actually looks like. Understanding your condition is one of the most powerful tools we give you.

05

Discharge Planning & Home Program

Bootcamp ends with a clear, personalized plan for what comes next. You'll leave with a home program, self-management strategies, and a roadmap for returning to work, school, sport, and the activities that matter to you — safely and sustainably.

What We Treat

Six pillars of PCS recovery

Each pillar addresses a different part of what's keeping you stuck. Together, they create the conditions for real, lasting recovery.

ANS Regulation

Your Autonomic Nervous System may be locked in a state of chronic activation after your injury. BRN uses evidence-based protocols — including heart rate variability training, breathing techniques, and graded exposure — to reset your nervous system and break the symptom cycle.

Vestibular & Vision Rehab

Dizziness, balance problems, visual disturbances, and motion sensitivity are among the most disabling PCS symptoms. Our vestibular and vision therapy directly targets the inner ear and visual processing systems disrupted by your concussion.

Graded Exertion Therapy

Controlled, progressive physical exertion is one of the most powerful — and most misunderstood — tools in PCS recovery. We use the Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test and individualized exertion protocols to safely push your recovery forward.

Cognitive Rehabilitation

Brain fog, memory problems, word-finding difficulty, and trouble concentrating are real neurological symptoms. Cognitive rehab uses structured exercises to rebuild processing speed, working memory, and attention — the functions most affected by PCS.

Sleep & Fatigue Management

Poor sleep is both a symptom and a driver of PCS. Without restorative sleep, the brain cannot heal. We address sleep architecture, sleep hygiene, and fatigue management as core components of your recovery — not afterthoughts.

Education & Self-Management

Understanding what's happening in your brain and nervous system is itself therapeutic. You'll leave Bootcamp with a clear picture of your condition, why your symptoms occur, and a personalized toolkit of strategies to manage and continue your recovery.

Our Philosophy

Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable

Recovery from PCS isn't always comfortable. Some of the most effective treatments — graded exertion, vestibular challenges, cognitive loading — involve doing things that feel hard at first.

BRN's Bootcamp is structured to help you build tolerance, confidence, and resilience — step by step, with expert support at every stage. You won't be pushed beyond what's safe. But you will be challenged to grow.

"Being uncomfortable is part of healing. We'll help you get comfortable with that."
